FIFTY-FIFTH YEAR. A f o A II VI I ii i m A . ft $rgan of $orth Carolina (ffonfierence ' RALEIGH, N. C, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1909. How To Deepen Spirituality From an Address delivered at Laymen's Meeting, Perry Street, Montgomery, Ala. By A. C. Davis, Local Lay Leader. THE present church has methods for reaching the un saved and aiding in the spiritual growth of its people, but are we making use of these agencies in a syste matic, organized way ? No plan which fails, to bring into use the united efforts of the people can produce results which measure up to the great mission of the church. I contend that the rapidity of spiritual growth depends on co-operative efforts. Left alone, we can make some progress in spiritual things ; but if we grow fast, if we advance rapidly, we must have the help, the prayers, the advice, the sympathy, and the experience of fellow Christians. The spirit of co-operation is entering into every form of business, and the commercial efficiency and accomplishments of these modern times are due largely to this spirit' and practice. Wherever co-operative efforts are most in use, that business or that enterprise en joys the greatest growth. If this is true in the business world, it is also true in the religious world. The business of the church is to deepen the spiritual experiences of its people and its constituency. Then why not work with and for each other, co-operate one 'with the other, and enjoy the greatest spiritual growth ? St '' NUMBER 1.
